INTRO: New AirSXM Reservation System Is Ready

Dear friends and clients,

Season's Greetings!!!
The new AirSXM reservation system is ready. You can view it online at Agents and touroperators can now get a login to the backend as well. We just need to load flights into the system. I am even thinking about buying seats on Winair, St. Barths Commuter and Anguilla Air Services flights to sell via our own reservation system.
I am looking at starting flights between St. Maarten and St. Eustatius in the new year together with Windward Express Airways, our local charter operator we work with with our shared charter flights to St. Barths.
I am now working on a brand new website for AirSXM. You can view it online under construction at Once it is ready, I will published it online on Then we will start a new era for AirStMaarten.

I have operated AirStMaarten for 10 years building up our markets and clientele with charters and commercial flights via third party airlines and charter operators. Now to venture into scheduled flights ourselves. I am looking at certain routes where I won't have any direct competition.

I have been in negotiations with the owner of one of the oldest travel agencies on St. Maarten who is interested in selling their agency to me. This will help us expand our customerbase. So you never know what the new year will bring for us at AirStMaarten.

More info coming soon in the next issue. In the meantime.....

Happy Readings!

3. ARTICLE: Shortsightedness Cause Of Caribbean Airlines Failures

Caribbean airline operators are in trouble. Not only those dependent on the Venezuelan market such as Inselair and Tiara Air, but also longtime operators such as LIAT and Caribbean Airlines. The cause? Shortsightedness.

Due to shortsightedness, these Caribbean airline operators refuse to work together. The tendency is that no one really trust each other. However, any form of success for Caribbean airline operators would depend mainly on cooperation agreements that are negotiated. But many of the Caribbean airline operators are not interested in cooperation and choose to focus solely on their own operations.

If Caribbean airline operators, who are all individually operating on a relatively small scale, can come together and put their heads together and pool their resources, they would be able to expand their operations and generate stable revenues throughout the Caribbean and long term business success.
At the end of the day, lack of cooperation is limiting the possibilities available to Caribbean airline operators to work hand in hand, simply because these airline operators do not truly understand the business they are in. If an airline operator does not have the vision to initiate and participate in a Caribbean-wide cooperation, then there is only one explanation for that: shortsightedness!

5. NEWS ITEM: Tiara Air Requests Bankruptcy Protection

The Aruban airline, Tiara Air, filed for bankruptcy protection which will prevent creditors and collectors from trying to collect debts from the ailing company.

The airline has been faced with financial problems for a while now. The Aruban government headed by Prime Minister Mike Eman has recently approved a bridge loan from a special emergency fund to keep the airline operating while waiting for the Venezuelan Commission for the Administration of Currency Exchange (CADIVI) to pay monies owed to the airline company for tickets sold in Venezuela.

CADIVI is one of the main causes of financial problems for various airlines in the Caribbean region, including the Curacao airline Insel Air. According to CADIVI reports, Venezuela owes Tiara Air about 40 million dollars.

The bankruptcy protection will give the company the required space to adjust its operations and to reduce its flights to the Venezuelan country. The airline announced that it will increase its operations to Curacao, Bonaire and Colombia. Currently the aviation company is operating to Curacao, Bonaire, Caracas, Maracaibo and Las Piedras in Venezuela, Fort Lauderdale and Riochacha in Colombia.
