INTRO: AirSXM Shared Charters Sale

Dear friends and clients,

April brings the end of a very successful high season. During the 2013-2014 winter season we experienced higher-than-expected demand for charters. Seats, flights and slots out of SXM Airport (Princess Juliana International PJIA Airport) were very limited.

During the Christmas holidays in December 2013 and New Year's Day 2014, rates went up 300% because of the last-minute demand and limited availabilities. At AirStMaarten we would like to offer our valued clients and travel agents the opportunity to reserve their charter flights and seats on our shared charters as early as possible with the following pre-season offers.

In case you are reading about AirStMaarten's private charters programme for the first time, here is some background information on our shared charters.

WHAT ARE SHARED CHARTERS?
A Shared Charter is when you book a Private Charter and you Only Pay for the Seat You Occupy. Not for the whole aircraft. AirStMaarten has been successfully organizing shared charters to St. Barths since November 2006.

HOW OUR SHARED CHARTERS WORK
Travel Agents and clients book our shared charters for seamless connections and hassle-free transfers to St. Barths and surrounding islands such as Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Eustatius, Antigua and Tortola.

HERE IS HOW OUR SHARED CHARTERS WORK...
1) If 1 or 2 people request to share a private charter, the shared charter is scheduled.
2) Once 3 or 4 people book the shared charter, the shared charter is confirmed and you are good to go!

If the shared charter is not confirmed, passengers are booked on a regular commercial flight with complimentary VIP Services to ensure their transit is smooth and hassle-free.

Visit www.sharedcharters.com for more information, scheduling and availabilities.

What Causes Airline Flight Delays?

HOW DOES AIRSTMAARTEN PLAN TO HANDLE FLIGHT DELAYS?

By Terrance Rey

From studying airline operations over the years, I know from experience that nothing is more frustrating to a passenger than flight delays. In the airline business, among other things such as direct flights, excess baggage allowance, cheap fares and great customer service,  clients want flights to be on time. But what causes flights to be delayed?

Flight delays are caused by a number of factors. First of all, the number one cause of flight delays is due to air traffic control issues.

The second source of flight delays is aircrafts arriving late. This can be caused by operational issues on the side of the airline company, like for instance, having to fly to another island first to re-fuel because St. Maarten has a fuel shortage. But most likely, the cause of the late arrival of an aircraft was due to air control issues at the point of departure.

The third major cause of flight delays are carrier related issues. I am not just thinking about management foul ups, but also issues such as mechanical failure on the aircraft, employees arriving late for work (yes, it do happen sometimes), no gate assignment requested by the carrier and the late arrival of an aircraft crew because they were stuck in traffic or the inbound flight they were flying in on was..... you guessed it... late!

The last major cause of flight delays you would expect to be the number one cause, especially here on St. Maarten, is bad weather. This is something we can do absolutely nothing about. When the weather is really bad, no flights in and no flights out. Visibility at the SXM Airport is usually impeded by severe weather to the point that aircrafts have to be re-directed to other airports outside the weather system.

Which brings me back to the title of this piece and my original question of how AirStMaarten plans to handle flight delays.

The ultimate cause of frustration at the airport counters and at the gates is that both passengers and counter personnel and gate agents usually know just about as much as the other do. Surprised to read this? Yes, the agent at the gate knows just as much as you do about what time a flight will arrive or depart. Why is this the case? Because the agents do not get any information from operations and ten out of ten times no one from management or any one with any responsibility is around to tell them anything or give them an update. Don't believe me? Just ask any LIAT passenger or LIAT handling agent.

So what's my solution for AirStMaarten? Simple! I will be personally on hand as a station manager to make sure staff and passengers get the necessary updates and that there is a line of communication open between operations and the handling agents. That is why I have requested that AirStMaarten handles its own flights in our new business license request to the Civil Aviation Department and the Ministry of Transportation to do scheduled flights.

5. NEWS ITEM: AirSXM Submits Request To Do Scheduled Flights

CEO AirStMaarten submits license request for AirSXM Inc PHILIPSBURG--CEO of AirStMaarten, Terrance Rey, recently revealed that last year October 2013 he had quietly submitted a request to the Ministry of Transportation on St. Maarten in order to obtain a new business license to do scheduled flights.

As President of the Board and Managing Director of the company, Rey, had had several meetings with authorities at the Department of Civil Aviation in St. Maarten before a positive advice was rendered by the department.

As soon as the Minister of Transportation signs off on the business license request, the process to achieve flight certification will be initiated by the company in order to obtain an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC).

7. AGENDA: AirSXM Set To Launch Innovative Flight Schedule

PHILIPSBURG--AirStMaarten (AirSXM) has been inspired to come up with an innovative flight schedule for proposed AirSXM flights that can take Aircruises in the Caribbean to new heights, says Terrance Rey, company CEO.

In October 2013, AirSXM submitted a request to the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication to upgrade its license in
order to provide scheduled flights. In anticipation of this licence, they have worked out an itinerary with seamless connections throughout the Caribbean.

They are presently working on a flight schedule that will make it possible to “cruise by air” and spend weekends in various destinations. These packages would offer the convenience of a one-stop-shop and be more affordable than the same trip booked by consumers independently.

The North American travel market, Caribbean Diaspora and the St. Maarten outbound travel market will be targeted with semi-fixed schedules to destinations including: Miami, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic; Aruba; Medellin, Colombia; Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Georgetown, Guyana; Kingston, Jamaica and Curacao.

AirSXM is unique in that it would be able to sell tickets for their own airline, as it owns travel agencies Let’s Travel with three travel agency locations on St. Maarten. The company hopes to be able to start the programme upcoming summer, providing that the licence is approved on time. Collaborating with hotels in order to further improve the product offer is also a plan for the future.
